Pandit Raghunath Murmu was born at Dahardih/ Dandbose on 05th May 1905. Pandit Raghunath Murmu’s birthplace is in the Mayurbhanj, Odisha district. The district of Mayurbhanj was formed from two names, Mayur and Bhanjas. Mayur and Bhanjas are two ruling families. That is why the name of the kingdom was made from the two names of the families, Mayur and Bhanj.
The district was merged with Odisha on 01 JAN 1949. In the district, Mayurbhanj comprises four towns and 3950 villages. The population of the district of Mayurbhanj is 22 lakh. If we talk about size, the district of Mayurbhanj is the largest district of Odisha. The district of Mayurbhanj is well connected to Kolkata.
Pandit Raghunath Murmu was associated with the technical profession and he joined the Badomtolia high school as a teacher. During their teaching job, Pandit Raghunath Murmu had a keen interest in Shantali literature, it is a language related to the 15th century. Pandit Raghunath Murmu was the inventor of the Ol Chiki script for writing Shantali. He got the honor of Hon D Litt from the Odisha Sahitya Academy. The medical college got his name as a tribute to him.
History: Why the name Pandit Raghunath Murmu
Pandit Raghunath Murmu was born in Dandbose, Odisha. He wrote the book Olchiki about the OLCHIKI script. This script has both small and capital letters. Pandit Raghunath Murmu has also calculated the problems in this script like arranging the day, date, week, month, year, calendar, etc.
He followed the lunar clips for these calculations. Kherwal Community has accepted all of his calculations in All India Conference held at West Bengal in Feb 1977. He keeps the MAGH as the beginning month. The new year as per his calendar was the first day of Magh after lunar clips. The name of the calendar is GODDET.
You can not say that he was a philosopher or he was a spiritual Guru. He has written about the creation of the universe, earth, and human beings in his book HITAL. Another book written by him is BAKHEN related to socio-religious topics. In total, he has written 24 books, and out of 24, only 21 books were published.
The college wants to pay tribute to Pandit Raghunath Murmu for his immense contribution to Shantali literature and the motive is to teach the young generation what Pandit Raghunath Murmu has done in his life.
